Plan an adventure: Before you start your trip, read library books and surf the Internet together for fun activities awaiting you at your destination. Holiday Inn Express hotels offer free high-speed Internet access in every guest room, so planning and research can continue on the road!

Hunt for words: Throughout your trip, have the family go through the alphabet, each person finding words on signs and displays that start with the letter they are given. Discover new words!

Don't forget to write!: Send friends and relatives postcards from different places along the way, or better yet, send one to yourself as a visual reminder of your trip.

Scrap it: Build a book of memories during your trip. Tape in pictures, souvenir tickets, brochures and ask family members to write in comments and captions.

Check out your hotel: Ask your kids how they could figure out how many rooms are in your hotel; challenge them to count the steps from one end of a hallway to another.

Plan a family itinerary: Investigate the tourist brochures in the lobby and write out plans for what to see and when.

Hold game nights: Before you settle in to bed, break out a word-related board game for a last little bit of fun.

Play word games: Challenge family members to create words by using letters they see on license plates. Make a competition of it – who can create the most words? Who is fastest?
